EDO Film Festival

Cities – Architecture – Urbanism

EDO is the first film festival in Slovenia dedicated entirely to films about cities, urbanism, and architecture. At the film screenings, we discuss urban visions, highlight current and past challenges facing cities, and shake up the roles played by urbanism and architecture. Although Slovenian cities seem far away from the places described in documentaries, they share the same urban problems and dilemmas. Each screening is followed by a debate with local experts who place global urban challenges in a local context.

The festival was named after the Slovenian architect and urban planner Edvard Ravnikar, better known to his friends as ‘Edo’. Ravnikar was an architect with a strong vision. He influenced the way Slovenian cities look and how we live in them. That is why the festival, which tries to understand and critically evaluate different visions of urban development, is named after him.

The special feature of the festival is that screenings do not take place in cinemas, but in various unusual locations around Ljubljana, including a tourist boat, the empty ground floor of Situla office building, the Technology Park, Kolinska warehouses and the abandoned construction site behind Bežigrad, also the site of the Krater production space.
