Urban Academy

Mentoring program for young urban planners.

The Urban Academy is a mentoring program for urban creatives who want to address spatial challenges in their hometowns with tangible actions. We educate and mentor young urban planners on public space planning, tactical urbanism, placemaking, temporary use, and other urban revitalization practices.

The team from Škofja Loka established a mobile square, in Šentjur the architects arranged a modern public space in the park between the blocks, in Krško a pedestrian connection was established between the railway station and the city centre. In Zagorje ob Savi, a public space next to the sports centre came to life, and in Škofja Loka a vision for a vibrant centre of urban culture was designed together with the users of the old barracks. Young urban planners and architects in Kamnik carried out a bigger urban intervention under co-sponsorship of Sinan Mihelič – a new, temporary festival venue for the Kamfest festival. Various cultural events took place on the site even after the end of the festival, and the success of the intervention prompted a discussion between the municipality and creatives about the development of the Barutana Creative District in the area.
